Making the Most of Today as a Woman in Christ
By Dr. Tonya Merriweather Gipson Miller
We live in a world that constantly urges us to relive yesterday or chase after tomorrow. But as women of faith, we are reminded again and again in Scripture that God meets us in the now.
Psalm 118:24 declares,
“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Not yesterday. Not next week. Today.
There is grace for today. Strength for today. And yes—purpose for today.
Too often, we view our lives in grand, sweeping visions of the future, while missing the sacred opportunities found in the ordinary. But the truth is, God works in the moments we overlook—the quiet obedience, the whispered prayer, the phone call we almost didn’t make, the devotional we almost skipped. These are the seeds of divine impact.
Today Is Not Small
Do not underestimate the significance of today simply because it lacks glamor or applause. Some of the greatest moves of God start in what feels like routine moments. God is not waiting for you to be in a pulpit, behind a podium, or on a platform to begin using you. He is already working through your presence, your persistence, and your faithfulness—today.
You may feel like today is too still, too slow, or too simple to matter. But let me reassure you: God sees your now, and He is moving in it.
Three Ways to Make the Most of Today
Here are three simple but powerful ways to stay grounded in the day God has given you:
1. Start with surrender.
Before the emails, before the meetings, before the responsibilities—pause. Begin your day with a posture of surrender. Whisper, “Lord, I give this day back to You. Lead me where I need to go.”
2. Move with intention.
Not every opportunity is an assignment. As you walk through today, ask God for clarity on what you’re called to do right now. Whether it’s showing up for your family, preparing a message, encouraging someone, or sitting still—do it with intention and purpose.
3. End with gratitude.
At the end of the day, take time to reflect. What went well? Where did you see God move? What did He teach you? Ending your day with gratitude creates spiritual momentum for the days to come.
Final Encouragement
You don’t have to have all the answers for next year. You don’t need to solve every problem in one week. God is not rushing you—He is inviting you to be fully present where He has placed you.
If you are leading, nurturing, waiting, healing, or building—do it today with grace, peace, and joy. There is power in the present. There is blessing in the now. And there is beauty in walking out your faith one faithful step at a time.
You are not behind. You are not forgotten. And you are not disqualified.
Today is a gift—and you are trusted to carry it well.
Let’s make the most of it. One moment, one prayer, one step at a time.
